La Cocina on Hyde

May 2024

We’re excited to share that we have officially transitioned our former food hall, the La Cocina Marketplace, into La Cocina on Hyde – our second shared-use commercial kitchen that will serve as a space for training, workshops and production for our greater entrepreneurial community of 80+ businesses.

La Cocina cultivates women, people of color, and immigrant food entrepreneurs by providing a supportive community and access to the resources required to formalize food businesses, building toward an economy where everyone can be nourished and thrive. This second kitchen space will reduce expenses and help us execute our core mission of cultivating food businesses.

As a community space, we are mission-aligned by offering technical assistance and affordable commercial kitchen space to business owners who live and operate in the Tenderloin and surrounding areas. The beginning of this transition will focus on optimizing the space for business use, beginning with an initial 13 entrepreneurs getting permitted and oriented to the space. The space is available for event rental. And we hope to host occasional community events for our Tenderloin neighbors and partners.

We’ve supported transitioning the businesses previously operating in the space to different locations so they can continue growing their businesses. Support them at their new homes:

From left to right: Wafa Bahloul of Kayma, Guadalupe Moreno of Mi Morena, Estrella Gonzalez of Estrellita’s Snacks, Tiffany Carter of Boug Cali, Nafy Flatley of Teranga, and Dilsa Lugo of Los Cilantros.

  • Bini’s Kitchen: Operating at 1001 Howard St. (at 6th St.) and her kiosk at 1 Post St. as well as the Foodwise Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

  • Boug Cali: Opening at the Ferry Building late spring.

  • Estrellita’s Snacks: Opening in the Tenderloin late spring and will continue serving at the Heart of the City Farmers Market.

  • Kayma: Opened a kiosk at Saluhall on 945 Market St.

  • Los Cilantros: Reopened and operating a full-service restaurant in Berkeley at La Peña Cultural Center.

  • Mi Morena: Vending at the UN Skate Plaza and will produce out of La Cocina on Hyde.

  • Teranga: Open at 4 Embarcadero Center with SF New Deal’s Vacant to Vibrant program.

La Cocina entrepreneurs and staff are eager to continue our work together in this space and we’re grateful for our community’s support in embracing this change. To continue supporting the community of La Cocina-born businesses, dine with them, host an event at La Cocina on Hyde St. and cater with us, and become an Insider to fuel our work.
